The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is a 15inch display laptop having a high-speed Thunderbolt connectors ideal for driving external displays. The laptop processor is high enough for a business entrepreneur to accomplish most of their business tasks. The battery life is very good assisted by the somewhat basic 1080p display that accompanied our review unit. Though Lenovo ThinkPad may be a few 100 dollars more than the competition, that has not prevented ThinkPad X1 carbon from earning PCWorld Editors’ Choice award.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon laptop constructed of four layers of carbon fiber, together with a magnesium alloy roll-cage. In day-to-day handling, that meant that it felt solid: both light and totally sturdy, with nary the slightest wiggle in the chassis. The laptop is rugged enough to pass the military’s MIL-STD-810G ruggedized tests. Lenovo ThinkPad i7 construction also pays dividends in terms of weight.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon core i7 laptop is available in silver color, most frequently offered in ThinkPad’s signature black. The laptop is not technically a convertible, but the display reclines to a flat angle, serving as a writing surface if you choose. The i7 laptop stiff hinge also resists any movement when flopping about.

If you open the ThinkPad x1 carbon laptop, you will see the ThinkPad X1 Carbon’s display, not typically one of Lenovo’s traditional strengths. 4 options are available for the laptop, though all are in 14inch

– The 1920×1080 display generated 309 nits using our tests. We generally test with a brightness between 250 and 260 nits as a comfortable level for daily work, and measure battery life accordingly.

– You can also pay more for a higher-res 2560×1440, 300-nit display (a $138 adder) or $180 more for a 500-nit, 2560×1440 glossy display boasting the Dolby Vision HDR capabilities.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Laptop Performance Overview

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon laptop is optimized to boost performance when you need it. In reality, this means that the ultrabook’s fan runs quite a bit, either in a fully revved-up mode or in a sort of quiet, background state. The accompanying Lenovo Vantage software allows you to turn off this automatic Intelligent Cooling mode and place it into a “Cool & Quiet” state.

Unfortunately, Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon’s fan often kept quietly yet noticeably hissing away. Working in an environment with a temperature of 78 degrees, the laptop’s Cinebench scores dropped by a full 25 percent, and our prolonged HandBrake video conversion scores feel considerable, too. All of our final numbers. But remember, with a quad-core 1.8GHz Core i7 8550U (Kaby Lake-R) chip inside it, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon should plow through general office tasks handily, and in our experience, it did so. The Work test measures Web browsing, working with Excel spreadsheets, and more. Clearly, the laptop is an 8th generation Core chip elevates it to the top of the heap.
